The Scottish Oyster Shucking Championships return to Stranraer Oyster Festival!
Chefs, oyster growers, producers, fishermen and industry professionals will battle it out against each other and the clock in a bid to be named Scottish Oyster Shucking Champion 2024. The winner will go on to represent Scotland at the World Oyster Opening Championships in Galway, Ireland. This is an energetic, risky and fast-paced competition and it’s great fun to watch!

You'll race against the clock and against other industry professionals to open a platter of Loch Ryan native oysters. Marks will be awarded on the speed of opening, technique and presentation, which means it's not always the fastest shucker who triumphs!
The winner will be crowned the SCOTTISH SHUCKING CHAMPION and will go on to represent Scotland in the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS at Galway Oyster Festival on an all-expenses paid trip. Galway Festival takes place on 27-29th September.
The Scottish Oyster Shucking Champion heats and final takes place in the Entertainment Marquee on Saturday 14th September 2024. The event will be compered by Andy Cummings, a top chef well-known in the Glasgow food scene and lecturer at City of Glasgow College. And our two judges, the previous Scottish Shucking Champion, Tristan Hugh-Jones of the Loch Ryan Oyster Fishery Company and Dr Janet Brown, Editor of the Grower magazine, will be ensuring oysters are shucked to the highest of standard.
