Stranraer Skiffs Regatta

1st Stranraer Regatta

16th & 17th September 2017

Stranraer Water Sports Association is hosting its First Skiff Rowing Regatta as part of the South West Challenge 2017 & Stranraer Oyster Festival

The following should present all the information you require to attend, enjoy and have fun at the Stranraer Regatta 2017. If you have any questions please contact David Davies 07702619279 or Wendi Cuffe 07809363289 who will be happy to help

Arrival and parking:

Stranraer Marina Office will be manned between 9 – 5 on Saturday and Sunday by members of SWSA
(please contact us directly if you will be arriving on Friday). You will be directed towards the trailer parking
or launch area as appropriate. Please launch your skiff as quickly as possible, help will be available if
required. Overnight secure locked storage with CCTV is available.


Skiffs will be launched from the slipway and stowed on the beach or alongside the reserved pontoon area.
Clubs are required to have all the necessary equipment for being tied to a pontoon or for being rafted to
another boat tied to a pontoon. Please ensure you have;
• Paddles
• Fenders
• Fore and Aft Painters

Race categories:

Saturday: The following categories will be used
• Mixed Open
• Men’s Open
• Women’s Open
• Mixed Over 20
• Mixed Under 20
• Junior (under 19)
• Mixed Decades
• Inter Club

Sunday will be time trials with a novelty race (Out for a Duck).


Please notify us by emailing to register your club, and crew/club members
attending . You can register your team from 9 am on Saturday/ Sunday morning by sending representative
to the race control area – Harbour Masters Office – The representative should bring a copy of your
insurance details. You will be provided with the necessary race instructions and a welcome pack.

Cox’s Briefing:

On Saturday and Sunday, a full Cox’s briefing will be conducted at 9.30 am at the Community building next
to Driftwood Restaurant in Agnew Park. All members of your club who may cox throughout the day must

All clubs must ensure that their cox is sufficiently experienced for their role.

Refreshments will be available at this briefing


During your time with us you will have full access to the facilities available at Stranraer, these include
• Toilets changing rooms and showers at the Harbour Masters building
• Café/ restaurant in the adjacent Agnew Park
• Club area within the events space in Agnew Park
• Public toilets within the park
• Secure boat storage for skiffs
• Mobile catering units will be available in the Marina area


All races will be fully compliant with all of the Scottish Coastal Rowing Association rules. Visiting clubs are
responsible for ensuring that all participants are fully aware of the current rules.
However we would like to draw your attention to the following:
1. All boats to display a flag or equivalent which clearly shows their boats number within the fleet as
designated on the SCRA craft register.
2. Stranraer Water Sports Association reserves the right to disqualify any club, in an individual race or
as a whole, which is not fully equipped with adequate safety equipment at all times. All teams shall
wear life jackets or SCRA approved equivalents. All boats should preferably be equipped with a VHF
radio or a mobile phone. If these requirements represent a problem, please contact SWSA.
3. All boats are subject to inspection to ensure that they are in compliance with the rules.
